Join us for the American Sign Language (ASL) Fingerspelling Competition

It’s time to build top-notch fingerspelling models that can quickly track fingers, hands, and faces with a smart camera. You could help shape and advance the future of sign language transcription by joining the American Sign Language Fingerspelling Recognition Competition brought to you by Kaggle and Google. Sean has short spiked hair, is light-skinned, wearing sunglasses and a black jacket with the words “deaf and loud” on the back. The video begins with a drone shot of the Google Bayview campus building, made of metal and glass. It then shows an opening scene of Sean in a board room with employees at laptops. Sean sees the home page for the Kaggle competition, closes his laptop, and begins singing and signing the lyrics of his song in American Sign Language. While he signs and sings, we see him in several colorful environments on the Google campus, including a music room with a drum set, outdoors near a Google “G” sign and moving among a giant chess set. At the end of the video, we return to the board room, where Sam Sepah, an ML researcher at Google, stands up and gives a small speech about the Kaggle competition. After doing this, Sean and Sam embrace, and the employees sitting at the table sign “applause” in ASL. The video closes with another drone-captured image flying over the Google Bayview campus.
