Introducing Gemini: Google's Next-Gen AI Evolution
Google's Bard has evolved into Gemini, marking a significant shift in Google's AI strategy and offerings. This transformation brings several new and enhanced features to the forefront, as Google aims to solidify its position in the competitive AI landscape.
What's New with Gemini?
Rebranding and Refocusing: Google has rebranded Bard as Gemini, indicating a strategic realignment of its AI suite. This rebranding is more than just a name change; it represents Google's commitment to leveraging its most advanced AI technologies under a unified brand.
Advanced AI Models: Gemini introduces two new AI models, Pro 1.0 and Ultra 1.0, enhancing Google's AI capabilities significantly. These models are part of Google's initiative to offer a more sophisticated AI experience, with Gemini Advanced being available through a new Google One AI Premium subscription.
Mobile Accessibility: The Gemini AI chatbot is now natively available on mobile devices through a new Gemini app for Android, and soon for iOS within the Google app. This move enhances accessibility, allowing users to interact with Gemini's advanced AI features on-the-go.
Enhanced Capabilities: Gemini is built to be multimodal, meaning it can understand, operate across, and combine different types of information including text, images, audio, video, and code. This positions Gemini as a versatile AI tool capable of sophisticated multimodal reasoning and advanced coding capabilities.
Wider Accessibility and Use Cases: The Gemini app, powered by Gemini Pro, is initially available in English in the US, with plans to expand to the Asia Pacific region and later to more languages and regions. Gemini Advanced, which gives access to the more powerful Gemini Ultra, is available in over 150 countries in English, with more languages and regions to be supported in the future.
Subscription Service: Gemini Advanced is part of a subscription service costing $19.99 per month, which includes additional benefits like 2TB of extra storage along with access to Gemini Ultra. This service is designed to compete with similar offerings from other AI providers, offering premium AI features to subscribers.
Integration Across Google Products: Gemini's capabilities are being integrated across a wide range of Google products, enhancing features like summarization in Recorder and Smart Reply in Gboard on the Pixel 8 Pro, and improving the Search Generative Experience (SGE) to be faster. Future plans include bringing Gemini Ultra to a new Bard Advanced experience and further integrating Gemini into Google Workspace apps.
